Apple’s late 2013 Mac Pro model is available for sale in European markets, with units already shipping to local buyers, French online publication Mac Generation reports. The previous Mac Pro generation was banned in the region on March 1, 2013 as new EU security standards demanding PC makers to better shield fans and electrical ports took effect. However, it looks like the newest Mac Pro model, which started selling in late 2013 in the U.S., meets the new safety regulations and can be commercialized in EU countries. In France, pricing for a Mac Pro starts at €2,999 (or around $4,098), with current purchases being shipped at an unspecified date in February.
Aimed at professionals, the Mac Pro was announced back at WWDC 2013 last summer, though it only hit stores in the second half of December last year. Even though it’s expected to offer a superior performance than other Apple computers, the new Mac Pro is just 8% faster than other iMac models – however, the internals of the new Mac Pro can easily be upgraded, according to iFixit‘s “official” teardown. Interestingly, even though more expensive than other computers, the Mac Pro is significantly cheaper than actually building a similar Windows-based PC using the same components.
