Here’s why you really shouldn’t freak out about the iPhone 6s’ smaller battery

iPhone 6s Plus Battery Size Life

A few iPhone 6s rumors said that the new models would have smaller batteries than the iPhone 6, even though the phones themselves would be slightly thicker. This didn’t make sense to some people initially, but the news became more logical when coupled with all the Force Touch leaks, which is what Apple’s 3D Touch display was referred to in rumors. Apple needed to add various components to the iPhone 6s series, so the screen can actually register the different pressures of touches and taps, which lead to an increase in iPhone thickness, but also to a smaller battery capacity.

DON’T MISS: iPhone 6s: The 9 best new features

Apple didn’t say on stage how big the battery inside the iPhone 6s, but 9to5Mac captured a screenshot from the iPhone 6s presentation video that clearly shows the device has a 1,715 mAh battery inside (see it above). Comparatively, the iPhone 6 has a 1,810 mAh battery.

A recent retail packaging leak from China said the iPhone 6s will have a 1,715 mAh battery, as well.

However, you shouldn’t freak out about poorer battery life on the iPhone 6s just because its battery is 95 mAh smaller than its predecessor. Apple quotes exactly the same battery stats for the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6 (see image below).

The same goes for the iPhone 6s Plus when it comes to battery life expectations. The bigger 2015 new iPhone also has the same internal 3D Touch hardware components as the iPhone 6s. A leak from China said the iPhone 6s Plus will have a 2,750 mAh battery (this detail is yet to be confirmed), compared to the iPhone 6 Plus’ 2,910 mAh.

iOS 9, a software release that brings several improvements over iOS 8 including a battery saving mode, should help out with battery life on the iPhone 6s as well. The main factor, though, is Apple’s new A9 chipset and other more efficient components used in the new iPhones.
