One of the problems iOS users have with the Control Center feature introduced in iOS 7 is that it can’t be customized by users to better suit their needs, unless the device is jailbroken. The settings shortcuts placed inside Control Center offer fast access to some toggles for turning on and off certain features, but the user is limited to only some predefined actions. However, that may change in the future, iDownloadBlog reports, as Apple could allow iPhone and iPad owners to customize their Control Centers.
iOS developers Hamza Sood discovered some interesting code in the first iOS 8 beta settings that would make such a thing possible, although it appears Apple is not ready to make the feature official yet. The screenshots he shared on Twitter reveal other buttons that could be added to Control Center, including shortcuts to Personal Hotspot and also an option to record the screen of the device.
Furthermore, Sood said the Control Center quick toggles could be scrollable as well.
The developer also found internal settings that suggest Apple may support Lock screen extensions in the future, although this is another feature the company is yet to acknowledge.
The two features Sood found in internal iOS 8 builds are not part of the iOS 8 documentation Apple provided to developers at WWDC last week, so they’re far from becoming official. However, Apple demoed on stage an interesting iOS 8 feature which seems to indicate that Control Center customizations may be available in the future – specifically, Apple showed how iOS apps will be able to add sharing options inside other apps, which then led to the discovery that users will be able to customize sharing options.
