Acclaimed writer and director Joss Whedon is responsible for several cult classic TV shows including Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he is known more recently for writing and directing the blockbuster smash, The Avengers. Whedon has been known to experiment in his films and with new distribution methods, and his latest project could be one of his most interesting experiments yet.
As noted by GigaOm, Whedon on Sunday surprised fans when he made the latest film from his production company Bellwether Pictures available exclusively as a 72-hour rental on Vimeo. Titled In Your Eyes, Whedon wrote the script for the new movie and he’s listed as the picture’s executive producer.
In Your Eyes is a “supernatural romance” that stars Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl-David. The 72-hour Vimeo rental is available immediately for $5.
“This is exciting for us because we get to explore yet another new form of distribution. And, we get $5,” Whedon said following the film’s premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Sunday.
