It looks like HTC is going to run into some serious trouble again this year. 2014’s gorgeous flagship HTC One M8 was overshadowed by Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and its monstrous marketing budget. Now, it looks like things might be even worse for HTC in 2015 as the company continues its efforts to stage a comeback in the face of daunting odds.
HTC’s new flagship phone for 2015 is still shaping up to be a beauty though, and a new leaked photo may show us exactly how it compares to last year’s model.

We saw leaked images of what is supposedly the new HTC One M9 for the first time earlier this week, and they showed a phone that looks to be a decent improvement over last year’s One M8. Most importantly, perhaps, the rear camera looks to have been improved dramatically on the new HTC One M9; this was a big pain point with the HTC One M8, of course.
All in all, however, it doesn’t appear as though the M9 will be an essential upgrade for people who currently own an M8, which means that HTC will once again be battling to steal business from Apple and Samsung.
Just how similar are the One M9 and One M8? A new leaked photo may hold the answer:
The image above was posted on Twitter Tuesday night by Steve Hemmerstoffer from French blog Nowhereelse. The photo seemingly shows an unreleased HTC One M9 prototype lined up next to the current-generation HTC One M8.
If the image is authentic, there’s no denying that the M9 is strikingly similar to its predecessor. As markings on the image show, the speaker grills appear to be a bit more compact and the bezel is narrower on the sides of the display. The phone’s overall footprint also may be a bit smaller than the M8.
Earlier reports stated that the HTC One M9 will feature a 5-inch full HD display, an octa-core 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM and Android Lollipop.
