HTC may unveil its next flagship device later than expected, @evleaks revealed in a recent tweet, without actually revealing a clear announcement or launch date for the handset. “Starting to look like a late March, NYC launch for HTC M8,” the trusted leaker wrote on Twitter.

While @evleaks does not mention the product by its commercial name, the HTC M8 may be called the HTC One 2, according to an entry into a database from the New Caledonian Telecommunications Authority, MobileGeeks reports. Interestingly, the database contains a large number of past HTC devices. However, it’s not clear whether the HTC One 2 will be the commercial name of the product, or whether it’s only used as a placeholder name. In addition to HTC One 2, the M8 smartphone has been previously rumored to be called the HTC One+.

According to the documentation available, the phone will also come in a dual-SIM version, and both devices will have dual-band (900/2100MHz) 3G support. However, other details about the handset have not been revealed by the local telecommunications authority.

A few days ago, the same @evleaks said that the HTC M8 will also be accompanied by an HTC M8 mini version, but a dual-SIM version of the handset was not mentioned. A previous rumor also said the phone will be available in four colors at launch.

Finally, an image leaked from Chinese social networking site Weibo claims to show the buttons of the HTC One 2, which will reportedly be on-screen buttons rather than capacitive, as found on the HTC One and the HTC One X in previous years.

For what it’s worth, the HTC One was also followed by an HTC One mini handset. HTC’s flagship handset of 2013, and one of the best Android devices of the past year, was originally unveiled on February 19 during a special media event that took place in New York City and in London, and launched in various markets in early March.
