Democrat says Congress will slap the FTC if it dares to sue Google

Consider yourself warned, Federal Trade Commission. The Hill reports that Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) has issued a stark warning to the FTC that Congress will act to limit its power if it decides to file an antitrust lawsuit against Google (GOOG). Specifically, Polis said that the “application of antitrust against Google would be a woefully misguided step that would threaten the very integrity of our antitrust system” and that it could lead Congress to restrict the FTC’s ability to file antitrust suits in the future. Polis’ threats come after Reuters reported last week that four out of five FTC commissioners were “convinced” that “Google illegally used its dominance of the search market to hurt its rivals.”
