We’re only in day 1 of the annual Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain, but it looks as though Samsung has already stolen the show. Samsung and HTC both announced stunning new flagship smartphones during separate press conferences on Sunday, but one succeeded in reinventing itself while the other showed off an iterative update that was decidedly far less exciting.

Where Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and of the Galaxy S6 edge are concerned, Samsung will really only have one competitor when it comes to flagship smartphone sales, and that’s the iPhone 6; simply put, no other company can afford to go up against Samsung’s multi-billion dollar marketing and advertising budget.

So, how do Samsung’s new flagship phones stack up against Apple’s iPhone 6?

I spent a good amount of time with Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones, and I was thoroughly impressed. The Galaxy S6 marks the start of an exciting new era for Samsung, and as I said in my Galaxy S6 edge preview, the edge model is simply stunning.

At this point, Samsung’s new flagship smartphones have no equal among Android vendors. Of course, the main rival Samsung must concern itself with is Apple’s iPhone 6.

It’s far too soon to give the two phones a thorough comparison, since no one outside of Samsung and its partner companies has spent more than a few hours with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, at most. The Wall Street Journal has put together a nice little graphic that can serve as a simple primer for the upcoming debate, though, and it does a nice job of quickly laying out most of the basics.

The WSJ article obviously expounds upon the line items seen in the graphic above, and it’s definitely worth a read. As for BGR’s take on the imminent rivalry, we’ll have plenty to say on the matter in the coming weeks.
