It’s official: The Galaxy Note 4 is going to be announced on September 3rd. Per SamMobile, Samsung has just sent out its press invitations for its Unpacked 2014 event, which will take place on September 3rd in Berlin during IFA 2014. While Samsung doesn’t explicitly say that the Galaxy Note 4 will be unveiled at this event, it’s pretty obvious that’s what’s coming since Samsung has used past IFA shows as launching pads for both the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy Note 3.

Everything we’ve heard about the Galaxy Note 4 indicates that it’s going to be a monster of a smartphone, with specs that include a 5.7-inch QHD display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 4-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The Galaxy Note 4 is releasing at a critical time for Samsung, whose smartphone sales growth has stalled and who will now face tougher competition than ever in the phablet market later this year when Apple releases its own 5.5-inch version of the iPhone. Samsung was a pioneer when it came to selling smartphones with giant displays and the company will have a decent head start if it releases the Note 4 in early September since the larger version of the new iPhone isn’t expected to drop until later this year.
