The Galaxy Alpha is supposed to be Samsung’s main weapon against the iPhone 6, and while the phone is not yet official, many reports have detailed its specs and features, and various image leaks revealed its final design. Samsung is expected to unveil the handset in the following weeks, but U.K. cell phone seller MobileFun has already put up for preorder a SIM-free Galaxy Alpha version on its website, apparently confirming its commercial name. And, from the looks of it, the handset is quite expensive.
FROM EARLIER: Metal Galaxy Alpha coming this August to ‘kill’ the iPhone 6
MobileFun’s Galaxy Alpha sells for £549 unlocked (or around $923), and comes in a 32GB black version, but a launch date is not available at this time. Since initially being discovered by ZDNet, the page has not yet been taken down.
While the online commerce site doesn’t offer any Galaxy Alpha images at this time, it does list several specs and features for the handset, which seem to confirm what previous leaks said about the Galaxy Alpha’s hardware.
The Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 resolution, octa-core Exynos 5 processor “for unprecedented speed and multi-tasking,” 32GB of storage, 12-megapixel camera with “superfast autofocus,” 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, fingerprint sensor, heart rate sensor, 4G LTE support, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
“The Samsung Galaxy Alpha features an octa-core Exynos processor,” MobileFun writes in the phone’s extensive description. “This means that there are eight powerful processor cores to handle the phone’s most power-hungry functions and allows the Alpha to run multiple tasks seamlessly as well as also preserve its battery life by shutting down the main cores when processor heavy functions are not being used.”
The retailer describes the phone’s main features in similar fashion, including camera, fingerprint sensor and AMOLED display.
