In celebration of the launch of OneDrive, the Dropbox rival formerly known as SkyDrive, Microsoft is offering 100GB of free cloud storage to the first 100,000 people who sign into their OneDrive accounts once the promotion kicks off on Wednesday, CNET reports. Those users that will get the extra storage should know that the offer is only valid for one year, after which time users will have to pay for the same amount of storage.
However, Microsoft was not willing to announce when the promotion will actually be available to users. “We aren’t announcing a time in advance. We’re telling people to monitor [the OneDrive Twitter account] for clues about the promotion and how they can be part of the 100,000,” a Microsoft representative told the publication.
OneDrive offers users 7GB of free storage and up to 5GB that’s split between referred users and the user who brings them to the service. An additional 3GB of storage is available for camera backups, while paid plans start at $25 a year for 50GB. The same 2GB for $1 price applies to other storage tiers: 100GB of cloud storage retails for $50 a year, while 200GB are available for $100 a year.
