What do you do when the family dog dies of old age, and you have to explain it to your 3-and-a-half-year-old son? You can tell him the pet is in dog heaven and you help him write letters to him, without expecting any answers. However, one day an answer might  come back.

DON’T MISS: Why do people seemingly forget that the Apple Watch is a first-gen product?

That’s what Mary Westbrook did when her family’s dog Moe passed away at age 13, leaving her son Luke wondering when the family dog would ever back home. According to PilotOnline.com, one day Luke asked his mom to write a letter to Moe, something that turned into a daily habit. “I miss you. Hope you’re having fun in doggie heaven,” would be the usual message in the crayon-filled drawings.

The letters would then go to the mailbox each day, addressed to Moe Westbrook on Cloud One, and Mary would fish them out as soon as Luke went to sleep. However, one such letter got away, and the mailman – doing his duty – picked it up.

“I figured someone would just throw it away once it got to the post office,” Mary said. “It didn’t even have a stamp.”

Surprisingly though, a few days later, a response came back, printed on paper marked USPS at the bottom.

“I’m in Doggie Heaven. I play all day. I am happy. Thank you 4 being my friend. I wuv you Luke,” the heartwarming message said (see below). Luke may be too young to be really impressed, but all dog lovers out there will certainly appreciate the gesture, especially after seeing this heartbreaking dog video the other day.
