We’re not the photographer type, but in our experience, Canon seems to craft some of the most solidly manufactured and feature packed pro-sumer digicams on the market. These new Powershot cams look to be no exception. The company has just announced two new additions to their Powershot line of consumer-oriented, feature-rich digital cameras, both sporting the company’s upgraded DIGIC III optical processor. The first, the Powershot A650 IS, is a 12 megapixel shooter that retains the distinct styling of the company’s A-series cameras. The A650 IS also has a 6x optical zoom lens, and the trademark 2.5″ flip-out LCD that makes framing those MySpace Facebook pics just a bit easier. Pretty dope. The second camera is the A720 IS, a slightly “down-market” affair, sporting a meager 8 megapixel sensor, and lacking the pivoting LCD of its bigger brother. 6x optical zoom is standard. Look for the A650 IS to retail for $399, and the A720 for the uber reasonable $249, with street prices likely a bit lower.
