One of the best things about Google Now is that it literally gives us no excuse to miss or be late for important events. Not only does it give you reminders about when your events are but it also gives you traffic reports that will help you find the fastest route to your event’s destination. Now Android Police has uncovered yet another Google Now trick that will give you yet another way to keep track of some events: Countdown timers.

Essentially, Android Police found that these countdown timers are based on your reminders. Unfortunately, it appears that these reminders aren’t yet tied to your Calendar app yet so you won’t be able to get countdown timers for more personal events such as doctors’ appointments or friends’ birthday parties just yet.

“Basically, if you have a reminder related to an event Google knows about (like Christmas, for instance), Google will pick up on that and — on your reminder card — serve you a countdown,” writes Android Police. “The functionality doesn’t seem to work with things like birthdays yet, so it probably won’t work with any personally-connected events, but it does work with events that Google as a service recognizes, like holidays.”

We can only hope that this functionality extends to more events as time goes on because this seems like a pretty cool feature.
