The gold Apple Watch Edition is viewed by many as the most overpriced Apple product that has ever existed. Of course, luxury products play by different rules than average consumer products and value is determined by things like status, availability and desirability rather than just the sum of the parts. Of course, whether or not Apple has actually created a desirable luxury product with the Apple Watch Edition remains to be seen.

In the meantime, gold lovers who don’t want to cough up between $10,000 and $17,000 for an unproven luxury product, or who can’t afford to do so even if they wanted to, now have a new option: Gold plate your stainless steel Apple Watch for just $399.

WatchPlate is a web-based service that will take your stainless steel Apple Watch via FedEx delivery and cover it with 24 karat yellow or rose gold. The company will pay for express shipping both ways, and it claims a three-day turnaround time.

Considering how few Apple Watches there are out there right now, three days should be no problem at all.

“We have nearly a century of combined gold plating experience and a passion for Apple products,” the company says on its website. “It’s quick and easy. Place your order and we will automatically email you your prepaid FedEx label. Then simply drop off your Apple watch at FedEx and within 3 business days after we receive it, we will ship it back to you looking like a million bucks (well, more like $10,000).”
