Apple design boss Jony Ive isn’t shy about ripping into competitors’ design choices and Business Insider brings us word that he was at it again recently during the Vanity Fair Summit, where he bashed rival phones for being too bulky and unwieldy compared with Apple’s newest iPhones.

“They were interesting features, having a bigger screen,” Ive said, referring to products such as Samsung’s Galaxy Note series. “But the end result was a really lousy product because they were big and clunky, like a lot of the competitive phones are still.”
Ive said that Apple faced a lot of engineering challenges when it came to designing an iPhone with a larger display. For one thing, the company decided to bring back the rounded edges that it used on earlier devices to make the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus easier to hold than they would have been if Apple had used the sharper edges found in the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 6 in particular is also insanely light for a device its size and weighs a mere 4.55 ounces, which is less than what 2013’s iPhone 5c weighed. It’s also the thinnest iPhone yet released with a depth of just 6.9 millimeters.
