. Per the Financial Review, it seems that Dell Australia managing director Joe Kremer doesn’t think much of the iPad’s potential as an enterprise device. Specifically, Kremer believes that the iPad is just a fancy toy that will inevitably crumble if used for standard business functions.
“People might be attracted to some of these shiny devices but technology departments can’t afford to support them,” he said. “If you are giving a presentation and something fails on the software side it might take four days to get it up and running again. I don’t think this race has been run yet.”
Of course, the iPad’s alleged failures as a business device haven’t stopped companies from scooping them up. The most recent ChangeWave data showed that around 20% of companies planned to purchase tablets for their workers and that 84% of planned tablet purchases were iPads. That isn’t to say Windows-based tablets won’t eventually gain traction in the enterprise whenever they’re released, but for now it seems that IT departments feel pretty comfortable managing the iPad on their networks.
