Leak reveals when Android 6.0 Marshmallow will start rolling out to Nexus devices

September 24th, 2015 at 7:00 PM
Android 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date October 4th

Do you own a Nexus 5 or a Nexus 6? Congratulations! You’ll likely be getting updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow on October 4th. MobileSyrup has spotted a release schedule posted by Canadian wireless carrier Telus that shows both of Google’s most recent Nexus phones are slated to get Marhsmallow on October 4th, which means the software will probably be released on that day as well. Nexus devices are the first to get the latest Android upgrades because they run pure Android and don’t have any carrier bloatware to update along with the basic software.

When will other Android devices be getting this update? Well, that’s not exactly easy to say since the vast majority of Android devices are made by OEMs that load their own software onto them and are sold through carriers that do the same. This has often meant that many users have to wait several months to get updates on their devices — nine months after its release, for example, Android 5.0 Lollipop is still only on 21% of Android devices.

In addition to upgrading its last two Nexus phones to Marshmallow, Google will also be unveiling two brand-new Nexuses on September 29th called the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P that will both obviously also have Marshmallow installed.
