HTC’s profit plummeted about 83% in the second quarter despite the successful launch of the flagship HTC One, and now the struggling Taiwan-based smartphone maker is taking some big steps in an attempt to reverse its downward trend that began in late 2011. According to an internal memo obtained by The Wall Street Journal, HTC is reorganizing its U.S. operations and putting president of global sales Jason Mackenzie in charge. “Effective immediately, in addition to his current duties in supporting me with global corporate strategy, Jason Mackenzie will lead HTC America,” HTC CEO Peter Chou said in the memo to employees. He went on to state that former U.S. boss Mike Woodward will lead a new “Emerging Devices” unit that will “focus on innovative new HTC products and global distribution strategies.”
