Media outlets and Samsung fans couldn’t have been more pleased with the innovations and upgrades of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5, but an impressive lineup of Android smartphones hasn’t been enough to right the ship in 2015.
On Friday, The Korea Times reported that Samsung is looking to further reduce its workforce before the end of the year in order to cut costs.

“Samsung’s top priority is to save costs. Average workers with mediocre performance are being advised to leave the company with a sizable compensation,” one official told the outlet.
This isn’t the first major round of layoffs Samsung has had to suffer through in 2015 either. In fact, just last month on the day before Apple unveiled its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Samsung announced that nearly 10,000 employees would have to be let go from the company’s headquarters in South Korea.
But it appears that the situation has not improved appreciably, because in the latest report, industry watchers claim that Samsung is now looking to cut its staff by a whopping 30%, singling out employees in the finance, human resources and marketing divisions of the company.
“Underperformers and managers aged over 50 and officials who failed to be promoted to a higher level are the targets for the voluntary retirement program by Samsung C&T,” the official noted.
Samsung Electronics had no comment regarding the reported layoffs.
