Apple’s next-generation iPhones might only be an “S” update, but they pack plenty of new features and improvements compared to last year’s iPhones. New aluminum makes them stronger, a faster A9 processor makes them more powerful, 2GB of RAM makes them smoother, 3D Touch makes them more versatile, and a 12-megapixel sensor makes them even more impressive camera phones.
We know you want them and you know you want them, so here’s when you can get them:
Apple confirmed during its press conference that the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will be released in the U.S. and other preliminary markets on Friday, September 25th. That’s just 16 days from today, so try to hang tight. The new iPhones will obviously be available to purchase on Apple’s website and in Apple stores, but it will also be sold by wireless carriers including Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, and other Apple retail partners like Best Buy will have launch-day inventory as well.
Ahead of general sales availability, Apple will make the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus available for preorder. Preorders go live on Apple’s website at 12:00 a.m. PDT this Saturday, September 12th. Carriers haven’t made any announcements yet but if history repeats itself, you’ll also be able to preorder Apple’s new iPhones from all the big wireless providers at that time.
Pricing is as follows:
- iPhone 6s 16GB: $199 on contract, $649 full retail
- iPhone 6s 64GB: $299 on contract, $749 full retail
- iPhone 6s 128GB: $399 on contract, $849 full retail
- iPhone 6s Plus 16GB: $299 on contract, $749 full retail
- iPhone 6s Plus 64GB: $399 on contract, $849 full retail
- iPhone 6s Plus 128GB: $499 on contract, $949 full retail
Also interesting is Apple’s new iPhone upgrade program, which allows users to pay as little as $32 per month directly to Apple for an unlocked iPhone. Then, a year later, you can trade in your iPhone and upgrade to a new model, continuing the same monthly payments as before.
All models will be available in four different color combinations — space gray/black, silver/white, yellow gold/white, rose gold/white — and as always, preordering them and buying them within a month of launch is going to be a nightmare.
