fans who simply can’t get enough of the Bluth family now have something to look forward to. A few months after word broke that Season 5 of the beloved comedy series was officially in the works, we now have more information about when the next installment of Arrested Development will begin filming and, more importantly, when it’ll hit Netflix.

While speaking on Adam Carolla’s podcast this week, Arrested Development Executive Producer Brian Grazer relayed that filming on the show’s fifth season is slated to begin sometime around January or February of next year, with a release date likely coming about four months later. As a result, it stands to reason that the next season of AD will premiere on Netflix sometime in mid-2016, likely in or around June. Previously, Grazer said that the fifth season will include 17 brand new episodes.
“Netflix is determined to do more episodes,” Grazer said, “so we’re going to do more episodes. It’s a lot of juggling of all these stars’ lives.”
Indeed, the fourth season of the show caught some fans off-guard on account of a somewhat tweaked format. Because of scheduling conflicts involving the cast, each episode tended to focus on one character in particular as opposed to showcasing the whole ensemble. Many fans were none too pleased with the new format and it’ll be interesting to see if the fifth season of the show reverts back to how things were during the show’s first three-year run back in the early 2000s.
Arrested Development originally debuted in 2003 before Fox cancelled it due to sub-par ratings. Netflix, bless its soul, thankfully swooped in and picked up the series a few years ago.
