If a survey asked smartphone users to identify the mobile apps they cannot live without, we have no doubt that Google Maps would find itself very close to the top of the list. As such, it’s always worth bringing the news to users’ attention when a new update is released — or is about to be released.

Google Maps 9.9 for Android devices is ready to roll out to devices around the world, but you don’t have to wait another minute to download it.

The good news is that yes, Google Maps is about to be updated and you can download the new version right now. Mind you, this is the finished version of the app that Google will release to the world, so you don’t have to worry about any issues that might pop up in pre-release versions of software.

But the bad news is that this is a pretty minor update.

Most of the changes are minor wrinkles that have been ironed out behind the scenes. The one change that you’ll notice immediately, as Android Police points out, is that the status bar at the top of the screen is now translucent instead of black. It’s certainly not a big deal, but it looks pretty nice.

You can download Google Maps 9.9 for free by clicking this link, or you can wait for the update to hit the Play store.
