Samsung is yet to announce record launch numbers for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, currently available for preorder in a variety of markets, but various reports already claim the new phones are already selling like hot cakes. After a rumor said a few days ago that Samsung is tripling Galaxy S6 edge production in order to meet increased demand, a new report from South Korean publication Naver reveals that preorders for Samsung’s sixth-gen Galaxy S models are significantly outpacing Galaxy S5 preorders in the U.S., one of the most important markets for the company.

According to the publication, more than twice as many Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge preorders have been placed than Galaxy S5 preorders, though no actual sales numbers are offered for the American market.
Samsung and carrier partners started accepting preorders on March 27, with the phones supposed to hit stores on April 10th. But Naver doesn’t say whether Samsung already managed to sell twice as many Galaxy S6 units as all Galaxy S5 preorders from last year, or whether these are the stats for the first four days of preorders.
Samsung has already confirmed that it sold more than 20 million Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge units to mobile operators and retailers weeks before actual preorders from customers started. Meanwhile, analysts expect the company to sell more than 50 million combined Galaxy S6 units in the first year.
Featuring a brand new design and significantly improved build qulity, the new Galaxy S6 handsets have already impressed potential buyers and the media. That’s certainly a welcome change of pace for Samsung, whose previous Galaxy S models have received plenty of criticism from fans. Many will rightfully point out that the phones’ design is partly responsible for their immediate success, and that the obvious iPhone 6 influences may be already paying off for Samsung.
