The Nexus 6 is a very good phone in many ways but, as we made clear in our review, it has a lot of flaws as well. To take one example, Business Insider has done a photo shootout between the Nexus 6, the iPhone 6 Plus and the Galaxy Note 4 and has found that the big Nexus’s camera is truly subpar in low-light situations.

DON’T MISS: Our review of the Nexus 6

In the pictures shown by Business Insider, the Note 4 and 6 Plus both took acceptable low-light pictures without the aid of a flash but the Nexus 6 picture was almost completely dark. In fact, it was so dark that you can only barely make out the outline of writer Lisa Eadicicco’s face.

Eadicicco concedes that in such low-light situations you’ll likely be using a flash anyway but also says that this picture quality is indicative of how the Nexus 6’s camera performs as a whole compared to rival phablet cameras.

“In most of the rounds, the Nexus 6 took acceptable photos, although Samsung and Apple’s results were usually sharper, more detailed, and well-lit,” she explains. “But this sample just shows how the cameras on the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy Note 4 are capable of taking in more light, which usually results in higher image quality.”
