Sifting through hundreds of thousands of apps in Apple and Google’s mobile app stores to find new interesting software is practically impossible thanks to all the clutter out there. We try to highlight great apps here and there on BGR — check out 10 of the most gorgeous iPhone apps ever and 15 amazing Android apps that do things the iPhone cannot for examples — but there are plenty more where those came from. As it turns out, some excellent options recently popped up when thousands of Reddit users came together in an “Ask Reddit” thread to discuss their “favorite apps that no one knows about.”
At the time of this writing, the month-old Reddit thread had 7,950 comments from users discussing their favorite little-known apps. Needless to say, sifting through all those comments would take a ridiculously long time, but one Reddit user thankfully did most of the hard work for us.
Redditor kjames00 used AppGator to assemble a collection of all of the iPhone and Android apps mentioned in the original Reddit thread that received more than 100 up-votes from other Reddit users. There are some in there that have gotten pretty popular recently, but there are also plenty of intriguing apps that you might not have heard of.
The full list has 39 apps on it though, so we’re adding one more to make it an even 40: aremaC. No spoilers… you’ll have to hit the iPhone App Store to see what this crazy camera app is all about.
Links to the original Reddit thread and the AppGator collection can be found below in our source section, along with a link to aremaC in the iOS App Store.
