iOS users who want to have access to their iMessages on devices that aren’t supported by Apple including Windows computers and Android smartphones can now do so with the help of a simple iOS app, Addictive Tips reveals — but the application requires an iOS jailbreak, of course.
Remote Messages is the $3.99 Cydia app that can bring iMessages to non-Apple devices, and the app has been “finally” updated to support iOS 7. What Remote Messages does is let Windows and Android users send and receive iMessages by entering a certain IP and port into a web browser on those devices, thus connecting them to their iOS device, which acts as a host.
The browser is then transformed into a somewhat faithful iMessage copy that replicates the functionality of the original iOS app. However, the iOS device that’s running Remote Messages and the Windows and/or Android device must be on the same Wi-Fi network in order for the app to work.
Remote Messages offers additional features including an authentication method and an experimental SSL encryption for messages.
iOS 7 can already be jailbroken, but the procedure will void the warranty on iOS devices. Apple doesn’t currently offer an official iMessage app for other platforms, of course.
