The International Consumer Electronics Show is always huge for TV makers and 2014 was no different. We saw the latest and greatest from all of the biggest TV vendors in the world, and this year was all about pixels. Flat panel TVs with 4K resolution represent the next big push the TV industry will make but regardless of resolution, OLED TVs are still the best in the business when it comes to picture quality. Unfortunately, top TV vendor Samsung says we’re still between three and four years away from seeing OLED TVs released that are actually affordable. HS Kim, executive vice president of Samsung’s visual display business, told USA Today that manufacturing issues are responsible for keeping prices so high, but we should start to see cheap OLED TV sets begin to trickle out in 2017 or 2018. Until then, be prepared to pay top dollar if you’re in the market for an OLED TV.
