Verizon Wireless (VZ) on Thursday announced that it will roll out a major software update for its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone beginning Friday. The update will bring Jelly Bean to the popular handset, though it will be a variant of Android 4.1 rather than the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2. Key features include Google Now support, actionable notifications, global roaming support, live filters for the camera and ISIS mobile payment support. The update will roll out in phases but users can update manually by initiating the download within the phone’s settings. Separately, Sprint (S) announced that an Android 4.1 update will begin rolling out to its EVO 4G LTE on Thursday.
