Apple has just released a long awaited update to their “Pro Tools Killer” application, Logic. The new version, Logic 8, promises a wide array of updates and changes. While previous versions have gone for upwards of $1,000, this new bundle clocks in at just $499. Price drops? Apple seems to have that on lock these days. The new Logic Pro Studio comes bundled with Logic Pro 8, Soundtrack 2, 40 studio quality instrument plug-ins, 80 studio quality effects plug-ins, and a new live performance app called Main Stage. This last bit is intended to compete with popular performance applications such as Ableton Live. It will be interesting to see how well Apple manages to execute an application which is, by all measures, a significant departure from anything they’ve attempted in the past. The GUI is pretty much identical to what we saw in Logic 7 which, depending on your preferences, could be a relief or an outrage. Whatever your preference, you can head over to the Apple store and nab a copy, effective immediately.
