Chances are, you haven’t been able to access one of your favorite websites today. And now we know why, as Network World reports that Amazon’s (AMZN) Elastic Block Storage (EBS) crashed on Monday and took down several popular sites with it, including Reddit, Imgur, “along with vacation rental service AirBNB, payment service Payvment and others.” Network World describes EBS as “a cloud-based block storage service that allows users to store large amounts of data,” meaning it’s seemingly ideal for sites such as Reddit that process enormous amounts of data on a daily basis. Although Reddit and Imgur briefly came back online at around 4 p.m. on Monday, both sites now appear to be down again.

UPDATE: Business Insider reports that GitHub, Heroku, GameFAQs, Turntable, Coursera, Branch, Foursquare and MongoLab have also been affected by the EBS crash.
