Just when you started to hear the ole Mortal Kombat “Finish Him!” in the background, HD-DVD surprises yet again. Paramount and Dreamworks Animation have both chosen to exclusively support HD-DVD, sending Blu-Ray fanboys into an official tizzy. Not a big deal, you say? Namely, two huge movies this year will now be HD-DVD only: Transformers and Shrek the Third. “Part of our vision is to aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality and features that appeal to our audience,” said Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. “I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount.” Just when you hoped thought there would be a clear winner, the future now looks as muddy as ever.
