It has been widely reported that Apple’s (AAPL) next-generation iPhone will include near field communication capabilities, and a Chinese blog on Monday published the first images that showed the alleged NFC chip integrated into the phone’s internal components. After an in-depth analysis, however, AnandTech has concluded that NFC in the next iPhone is “highly unlikely” and “can almost entirely” be ruled out. “Given the primarily metal backside of the new iPhone, it’s highly unlikely that NFC is in the cards for this generation,” Brian Klug and Anand Lal Shimp wrote. “In fact, given the very little space at top and bottom dedicated to those glass RF windows, you can almost entirely rule it out.” The speculation was then apparently confirmed with a simple “yep” by the well-connected Jim Dalrymple of The Loop. Apple is expected to announce its next-generation iPhone at a press conference on September 12th.
