Samsung is about to get more involved in Gorilla Glass development. Gorilla Glass manufacturer Corning announced on Wednesday that Samsung Display has acquired a 7.4% stake in the company in exchange for giving Corning full control of the Samsung Corning Precision Materials joint venture. Corning also said that the two companies have entered into a “new long-term LCD display glass supply agreement” that will last through 2023. Corning’s Gorilla Glass is a key component of many smartphones as it delivers both light weight and durability that manufacturers look for when they build flagship devices. Corning’s latest version of the glass, dubbed Gorilla Glass 3, debuted earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show.
