The new 3D Touch feature of the iPhone 6s is getting all the attention on release week, as it should, but there’s another major addition that has Apple fans excited: 4K video recording.

That’s right: with the new iPhones, you’ll be able to record in stunning 2160p resolution, capturing footage unlike anything you’ve ever seen on an iPhone in the past. Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that 4K video can take up to 400MB for every minute you record, so 16GB iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus owners will need to be especially mindful of filling up their devices.
No matter which model you picked up, you’ll probably still want to give the feature a try, but it’s actually off by default (as Apple probably didn’t want everyone to run out of storage on day one).
Here’s how to turn on 4K recording:
- Head to the “Settings” app
- Tap on the “Photos & Camera” menu
- Tap “Record Video” at the bottom of the menu
- Choose “4K HD at 30 fps” and you’re all set
Once you’ve recorded a few gigs of 4K video, be sure to remember to head back to the menu and switch back to 720p or 1080p recording. Otherwise you might not have any room for the next Live Photo you try to take.
