Samsung may have had a strong attitude on stage during the Galaxy S6 event a few days ago, hitting Apple a few times over the iPhone 6’s design and camera capabilities, but the moment when top Samsung execs has to answer a burning question came soon after. Samsung’s head of Mobile JK Shin and Samsung’s head of mobile marketing Younghee Lee talked to Korean reporters on Monday and they were asked to respond to all the iPhone 6 copycat claims.
FROM EARLIER: The last word: Is the Galaxy S6 an iPhone clone?
Apparently, Samsung doesn’t believe the Galaxy S6 looks anything like the iPhone 6 in real life, as some people have suggested.
“After seeing the real thing, do you really think the S6 looks like iPhone 6? If you look at the real thing, it is really not the same, and we have deeper color tones,” Lee said, according to CNET. “There is a different texture and durability [to the S6] which shows a different design DNA and language.”
When explaining what Samsung plans to do in China, where local phone makers like Xiaomi are becoming more and more popular, Shin said that Samsung’s strategy is to “find futuristic material and designs that makes us stand out against our competitors.”
Further expanding on copy claims, he added that “some companies just copy others,” which must have been a difficult answer to provide considering the countless times Samsung itself has been accused of such practices.
“We try to differentiate by using construction methods that are difficult to copy. I think our manufacturing prowess and quality has been best in the industry for a while now. Samsung Electronics’ smartphone really has nothing lesser than any other manufacturer’s,” Shin added.
Finally, the execs also explained why they hit Apple so hard during the announcement, revealing they wanted to “send a short and crisp but strong message.”
“We chose [calling out Apple] for the strongest impact in the shortest time frame. Comparing the power of cameras and durability with a rival gets our point across easier,” Lee added.
