After the Galaxy S5 was a huge letdown to smartphone fans around the world — and to Samsung, in terms of sales numbers — the South Korean giant had a tough road ahead when it began developing the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. It’s still early, but it’s already pretty safe to say that Samsung came through this time around. The company unveiled fresh new smartphones that are not only the most gorgeous handsets Samsung has ever made, but also phones that are packed full of exciting next-generation mobile technology.
Did Samsung succeed in building new phones with brawn that matches their beauty? As they say, benchmark performance test results speak louder than words.
Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge feature stunning housings crafted entirely of Gorilla Glass 4 and aluminum. Inside is where the real action is, however.
Samsung’s latest Exynos processor is a 14nm octa-core chipset that touts a number of industry firsts. The phones also include 3GB of class-leading LPDDR4 RAM and UFS 2.0 flash storage that is faster than anything else on the market.
The results speak for themselves.
Computer Base recently ran a number of benchmark tests on the new Galaxy S6 with Samsung’s 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor, and the results show a smartphone that absolutely crushes the competition in key performance tests.
The Geekbench 3 performance test is likely the most telling:
Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus had been a top performer among smartphones for some time, but now we can see that both the HTC One M9 and the Galaxy S6 have pulled ahead by a wide margin. And the S6 handily tops the M9 by almost 15%.
The bad news, of course, is that Samsung has not yet said whether or not the new Exynos 7420 chipset will be included in the U.S. versions of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, so we’ll have to wait a few more weeks before we know whether or not the phone will be this powerful when it launches stateside.
