Apple thanking the jailbreak community for finding vulnerabilities in iOS 7, which the company was then able to patch, was a clear sign that an iOS 7.1 jailbreak will take its time to arrive. However, a hacker managed to already jailbreak Apple’s newest iOS version, RedmondPie reports, although, it’s not necessarily great news for jailbreakers.
The publication says that winocm, the hacker responsible for this jailbreak, is known for focusing on older iOS devices. Thus, the first untethered iOS 7.1 jailbreak apparently works only on older devices, which means users on Apple’s latest iPhone and iPad models still have to wait for a working iOS 7.1 jailbreak to be released. Older devices are more likely to be jailbroken no matter what iOS version they run, such as A4-based devices like the iPhone 4.
The handset used in the video demo is most likely an iPhone 4 – the 30-pin port is barely visible, but the clearest giveaway is the screen of handset which shows only five rows of apps (dock included), a characteristic of 3.5-inch iPhone displays. Furthermore, for some reason the Cydia jailbreak store doesn’t appear to be present on the device, which is the main reason to perform a jailbreak in the first place.
That doesn’t mean the hackers behind the Evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak aren’t working on an iOS 7.1 jailbreak that would be compatible with multiple iOS devices, but nobody is revealing anything just yet.
