Apple (AAPL) fans could get an added treat during the company’s iPad mini launch event this month. A “consistently reliable source at a high-profile U.S. retailer” has told 9to5Mac that alongside the iPad mini, Apple will also launch the 13-inch version of its MacBook Pro that comes equipped with its powerful Retina display that features a pixel density of 220 pixels-per-inch. We’ve known about Apple’s plans to offer a 13-inch version of the Retina-equipped MacBook Pro for a while now, although this is the first time we’ve heard that it will be ready for launch by the end of October.

UPDATE: AllThingsD has confirmed 9to5Mac’s report and says that Apple “plans to unveil a smaller version of its MacBook Pro with Retina Display” at its iPad mini event.
