It’s Official: Netflix Announces Unlimited Streaming

Netflix has finally officially announced that nearly all of its seven-million subscribers will be able to enjoy unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows. Beginning immediately, all Netflix customers on any unlimited rental plans will have full unrestricted access to the online library. Netflix has been playing with streaming for some time now on a limited basis, but decided to make some serious waves out of the gate by making their publically-available streaming service unlimited to all eligible customers. For newer customers with quantity-capped subscription plans, a two-hour per month taste of online streaming should be just enough for many to bump up to an unlimited plan. While Netflix’s DVD rental library boats around 90,000 titles, there are currently only about 6,000 movies and shows available for streaming. Considering the service is available at no additional cost and the library is bound to grow substantially, it most certainly has the potential to put a big dent in the movie / TV show-streaming game that more and more companies are playing. Beyond that, Blockbuster recently thanked all of their loyal customers with a nice Total Access price hike. Now that the only card they have left to play is free in-store movie exchanges, Blockbuster best get its act in gear if it hopes to keep the Total Access service relevant.
