Motorola announces the CLIQ XT

Today at Mobile World Congress, Motorola announced the CLIQ XT with MOTOBLUR. Having nearly identical specs to the original CLIQ, it features a 3.1″ HVGA capacitive display, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM tuner, e-compass, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, and Android 1.5. Yeah, that probably sounds familiar. The big differences between them are that the CLIQ XT has an optical trackpad, lacks a QWERTY slider, supports Flash Lite and features “pinch and zoom” multitouch throughout the system. Besides that, than there’s really not much else to say other than we hope this isn’t all we’re going to see from Motorola because, well, talk about forgettable. The CLIQ XT with MOTOBLUR will be available from T-Mobile USA next month, while the Global version, QUENCH with MOTOBLUR, will be available in multiple regions by the end of this quarter.

Meh. Put a larger touchscreen and Android 2.1 and we’ll talk. Was the CLIQ really a good enough seller to warrant a reiteration? I’ve never seen anyone with one and I love Moto.

soooo much wasted real estate around the screen… they could have put a much larger screen on there… and 480×320… meh…

it’s like the Moto PEBL of the Android world… LOL

I’ve seen a few people with the Cliq and they were in the 25-35ish age range. They were all very quick to say how much they enjoy the phone and blur.

Yet…they all went kind of droopy with envy when I took out my TP2 and said I “almost” went with the Cliq(LIE). :P

Wow, Moto is just trying to ride the hype of the Droid with mediocrity after mediocrity

  • Revan

Another mediocre phone for T-Mo? Nice job guys! I played with the original Cliq and was unimpressed with the overall design and feel of the handset. Doubt this will impress me either. I hope Moto puts out a device worthy of Android some time this year and I hope even more T-mo gets it cause we keep getting shafted with crappy phones.

I hv heard this phone is really awesome to use…not very high end…but its very pleasing….

The phone is actually very pretty…

I had the cliq for about a week, via T-Mobile USA, i really enjoyed the phone. But the “typical Android” battery life was horrible in my honest opinion. but the phone was very pleasant to use.

I agree. The phone despite having a smaller screen, has amazing touch sensitivity, and blur is a lot more than social networking! Jeez people do ur hw! This phone does have a great feel. And is 2.1 vs 1.5 really a deal killer?? It’ll be updated soon no matter what. And come on flash lite and pinch and zoom? Quit whining. Not every phone out is gonna be high end. Its not an effective strategy from a company pov.

It’s not that we are whining, it’s just that for roughly the same amount of money on a 2yr contract you can can get a “high end” phone…So unless their planning on selling this tiny 3.1″ screen, outdated OS, and cluttered UI so called smartphone for under $100, nobody will want it.

      • airport

why is everyone so quick to say that Blur is soooo cluttered?!

Have you ever used it? It’s fully customizable, you can take out whatever you want, add what you want. you can make it look like a bare bones android device if you want. Again, i reiterate, do your hw before being too quick to judge.

the locate, wipe, restore option alone is awesome.

MOTOBLUR Series from Moto are really nice devices. Not everyone is a geek and ready to carry a HD2 or a Milestone in his pocket! Moto is going the N-Series Strategie for every one ready to try touch display Smartphones. Sadly in the Homeland of T-Mobile there´s still not a single Blur Device…

I know someone who has the cliq and loves it. Due to ease of access to facebook. She’s not very geeky but yup, loves the cliq.

  • JFA

I love my CLIQ, but i doubt i’ll jump to another BLUR Android handset after it, unless they add some serious specs to it, which i doubt Moto will do.

I’m jealous of the flash lite and “pinch to zoom” on this thing though, hopefully the CLIQ gets it with 2.1 update.

      It also has
      - Connected Media Player
      - FM Radio ( isn’t that cool)

come one everyone, give Moto a chance!!! You cannot be just writing it off even before trying it. This phone looks pretty..

    I,m try to love Motorola

I have the cliq, and love it… and as “airport” said, it’s fully customizable. I dont know who came up with saying it’s too cluttered… then drag it to the trash can and delete the app if you dont like it. and with 5 screens to place what ever you like on them. The only things i’d like to see are, the multi touch (pinch zooming) and android 2.1… even though i dont even really know what 2.1 entails… so i’m off for more H/W…
