Good news for Windows Phone 7 users burned by the fact that their smartphones can’t be updated to Windows Phone 8. An alleged Nokia (NOK) document leak from Winp.cn reveals some new features for what to expect in Windows Phone 7.8 – an update that gives Windows Phone 7 devices a half-baked Windows Phone 8 experience.
According to Winp.cn, the lockscreen is customizable and has the ability to display information from an assigned app and Internet Explorer 9 gets a security enhancement, but won’t be updated to IE10. An MP3 editor for creating custom ringtones from songs and 20 system theme colors will also be added in Windows Phone 7.8.
The Chinese website also says Nokia will add features such as Bluetooth file sharing for non-DRM files, an updated Contacts Transfer app and an improved ringtone editor to its Lumia smartphones. Lastly, Windows Phone Italy’s Facebook (FB) page reportedly says 7.8 will support the new “Rooms” found in WP8, Xbox SmartGlass and Xbox Music.
