A screenshot obtained by PhoneArena seems to confirm that Verizon is in the advanced stages of development for its long-awaited shared family data plans. Speaking during a UBS conference in December, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam said the company may roll out shared data plans in 2012. Verizon CFO Fran Shammo in February also confirmed the company’s intentions to launch the new plans this year, stating, “You’ll see something launched midyear this year from us.” A family plan currently requires each smartphone user to subscribe to an individual data plan, however the carrier’s new plans will allow all family members to share a single pool of data similar to sharing voice minutes. The screen capture above reportedly shows a Verizon data calculator, which will help families figure out how much data they use and which plan might be appropriate.
