If you plan on watching a scary movie this Halloween, there’s a very good chance that whatever you’re watching was referenced at one point or another in The Cabin in the Woods, Joss Whedon’s brilliant parody of and tribute to horror films that references an incredible array of classic creature features over the span of just 95 minutes.

A new video posted by GoodBadFlicks this week breaks down all of the subtle and not-so-subtle allusions in Cabin in the Woods to older horror films, including highly acclaimed classics such as The Shining, The Evil Dead and The Night of the Living Dead, to less-than-classic ones such as Reptilicus, Dark Night of the Scarecrow and Jack Frost.

What makes this video so awesome is that GoodBadFlicks doesn’t just check off the obvious monster references but it also analyzes the film for the ways its actors move or the way shots are set up to reveal some obscure and very cleverly concealed film movie allusions.

Check out the whole thing below and be amazed by GoodBadFlicks‘ meticulous horror scholarship.
