SkypeKit to allow integration of Skype into all web-based devices

Updated Dec 19th, 2018 6:41PM EST

Skype’s new collection of software and APIs, named SkypeKit, is designed to take Skype out of the box. Literally. The new kit will allow developers to integrate Skype video and audio chat into virtually any web-connected device or product with their own custom interface. Skype describes its new tool set as follows:

SkypeKit is designed to work with a wide variety of chip sets, operating systems, and audio/video devices. Think of SkypeKit as a “headless” version of Skype–that is, it runs invisibly with no user display. That way, developers are free to surface and deliver Skype functionality through their own products’ interfaces.

At the moment the device supports Linux, and will support Mac OS and Windows in the very near future. All very exciting stuff. Are there any web-based products you would like to see Skype integrated into?
