We guess that any fear of your cell phone causing cancer gets trumped by something as serious as this. A Korean quarry worker was found dead near his excavator, with severe burns around shirt pocket in which his phone was found. The phone’s manufacturer, LG, is already hot on the investigation trail, but it’s not looking good. Says the medical examiner:
“He sustained an injury that is similar to a burn in the left chest and his ribs and spine were broken. It is presumed that pressure caused by the explosion damaged his heart and lungs, leading to his death.”
This is definitely a PR nightmare that we wouldn’t wish upon anyone, but it looks like it isn’t true after all. Word is that the injurys the man sustained were way too servere to be caused by ane exploding cell phone — “virtually impossible,” said LG. And we might tend to agree for the meantime.
