CNET is reporting that software giant Oracle has filed a lawsuit against Google for the search giant’s use of Java in the Android mobile operating system. According to the suit, Google: “knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle’s Java-related intellectual property.” Google noted that they had not yet been served with the suit and therefore could not comment. The suit also claims that “Google has been aware of Sun’s patent portfolio, including the patents at issue, since the middle of this decade.” Both companies certainly have enough money to drag this one out for a very, very long time in court. We’ll keep a close watch on the proceedings and report back when any major milestones are reached.
