Office 2016 Windows Release Date

Office users waiting for the big 2016 update from Microsoft should be thrilled to hear the company may be gearing up for a September 22nd release for its new Office suite. The new Office 2016 software for Windows follows a similar version for Mac, which was released in July.

According to German tech site WinFuture, Office 2016 will be available initially to both home and professional users. Microsoft is currently working on a final release candidate build, The Verge has learned, though the company has yet to make any announcements regarding its launch plans.

Office 2016 for Windows will include a colorful new theme identical to what’s available on the Mac, iOS and Android apps. The software bundle should also be similar to the Windows 10 touch-optimized version of Office.

In addition to the colorful theme, there’s also a new dark theme in Office 2016, The Verge notes. Other new features include better Outlook 2016 search, improvements to image insertions in Word 2016 and Excel 2016, and real-time co-authoring within the desktop version of Office 2016, which is a first for the desktop productivity bundle. Real-time co-authoring has been an online-only feature so far.
