We all remember a couple of years ago when BlackBerry’s maker Research in Motion was sued by NTP for copyright infringement for their email software, right? Well, that little known patent holding company, NTP, is at it again, only this time they have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against AT&T, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. Hot damn! The lawsuit alleges that the cellular carriers’ offerings of devices and applications capable of sending and receiving mobile e-mail infringe on several patents owned by NTP. Previously to filing suit against the cellular carriers, NTP filed lawsuit against Palm for infringing on the same set of patents. Palm has responded to the suit saying it would “defend itself vigorously” against NTP’s claims, and the case is currently making its way through the court system. NTP, which is strictly a patent holding firm, does not manufacturer anything nor have any services that use its patents, which has many to believe that this will most likely be a long and drawn out case that will likely not result in any delays in emails. Anyone want to take dibs on who they will sue next?
