Oooo a mystery… A new HTC handset with the model number XV6175 received GSM certification from the Global Certification Forum and it has left the blogosphere abuzz. The first thing we notice of couse is the XV prefix, which is generally reserved for Verizon Wireless. This, coupled with the lack of UMTS/HSDPA suggests the phone may be a dual CDMA/GSM world phone, as is currently the direction VZW seems to want to head with all of its smartphones. From the leaked 2009 HTC lineup, eligible candidates for this mystery phone include the HTC Twin which is rumored to be a CDMA/GSM hybrid phone, though the target carrier is unknown and not presumed to be Verizon Wireless. The Whitestone W is thought to be multimedia-centric Verizon phone with both CDMA and GSM support, making it a definite possibility for this mystery phone. Last but not least is the HTC Cedar, a low end Windows Mobile Standard device. The low model number of 6175 would fall in line with this being a Windows Mobile standard phone, placing it below the Windows Mobile professional HTC XV6900 (Touch) and the XV6850 (Touch Pro). The Cedar has not been rumored to be a world phone but HTC certainly may have a few surprises left up its sleeve for us in 2009.
